We barely give our feet a second thought. We look down on them and we usually walk all over them, but we really shouldn’t.
Joking aside we don’t do enough to protect and cherish our feet. The other night we were sitting with our feet up and watching the opening ceremony of the Rio games and we thought… what can we learn from athletes about looking after our tootsies?
Peppermint Essential Oil Performance Enhancing Benefits
Performance Enhancing Drugs, it’s a phrase we hear a lot, but there are a number of performance enhancing substances we don’t hear about. The thing is athletes use a huge number of products to give themselves a competitive edge. Of course the press pays little attention to these natural and perfectly legal substances, because there’s no scandal in taking a few herbal remedies and looking after yourself.
One such remedy which we’ve discovered athletes use a lot is Peppermint. It came as no surprise to us that this amazing oil see regular use in training schedules.
Peppermint is perfect for anyone who competes, works out or even just spends a lot of time on their feet. Like other members of the mint family it has analgesic (pain relieving) properties and has been proven to improve exercise performance, respiratory function, blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory gas exchange.
In a study published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, Peppermint oil was given to training athletes over a ten day period. The results were staggering.
Participants were tested before and after peppermint consumption for various indicators of cardiovascular performance. Each of those tested reported significant improvements in their stats.
The amount of total work completed by test subjects jumped by 51% and they demonstrated a 25% increase in the time it took them to become exhausted.

This is why we use a Peppermint essential oil blend as the core ingredient in our Gold award winning Peppermint Foot Soak & Scrub and Foot Balm. Apart from its pain relieving qualities and the obvious pleasing aromatic odour, peppermint oil is also renowned to be have anti-spasmodic and anti-microbial properties so it’s great for anyone who has an active life style.
As a producer of natural cosmetics we’ve learned a lot about the essential oils we use. Over the next few weeks we’ll be looking at some of our favourites and letting you in on our secrets. Meanwhile we’re going to go and put our feet up again, after a good soak in our Peppermint Foot Soak & Scrub first of course.
